Differences between the Neon Genesis Evangelion Rebuilds (1.11 & 2.22) and the original series?

I heard that 1.11 is very close, but 2.22 changes alot. What exactly changes? And I understand it is a remake/reboot; I am asking what changes plot/character/general-feel wise. Also if you have any other comments on differences they would be welcome. I never watched the original, but may after the movies.
